This stakeholder training program builds community and patient expertise in community engaged research using a unique interactive and multi-tiered method. The primary goal is to establish a network of ambassadors capable of informing research at DukeHealth to ensure patient and community perspectives are proactively included in the research process, from idea generation through to the dissemination of findings. Patients and community members will have the option to participate in comprehensive trainings around research, research methods, and key topics around stakeholder engagement and diverse representation. Each training series builds upon the other encompassing three levels of expertise and engagement, so PCARes participants can be able serve in a variety of capacities to inform research across the translational spectrum projects, or as fully vested and engaged co-investigators. The program is developed with significant community and patient stakeholders who are providing critical thought leadership on program design, training components, and issues of importance to patients and community advocates in various health based settings.
